This section is here
because I thought that I should at least address this issue somewhere on my
site.
I don't know where the
term "T-Cup" Chihuahua came from, but it is an extremely false term. There never
was such a thing as a T-cup Chihuahua!
The only difference in
the A.K.C./C.K.C. listing for Chihuahuas is the length of their coat. There is
no other classifications in regards to size and weight. The entire Chihuahua
breed is classified in the "Toy Breed" group.
There are times, when a puppy in a
litter is much smaller than its littermates. These puppies are usually known as
a "runt".
A lot of bad breeders,
and pet shops like to use terms such as: "Tiny Toy", "T-Cup", "Pocket Size", or
"Miniature" to describe the smaller pups in the litter. A majority of the time
their asking insane amounts of money for these smaller beauties, and their
claiming that your getting a puppy that is unique and special because of its
size. But please, don't be fooled! They're only out for your pocketbook!
If you happen to run
into a seller using one of these terms - walk away! Rather, look for a breeder
who will not lie to you about the puppy being a runt! Look for puppies who are
home -raised, rather than raised in a puppy mill. Puppies who are raised in home
with a family usually are a lot more healthy, more socialized, and much
friendlier! These
smaller Chihuahuas are damned cute, I whole - heartedly agree, but make sure
that you're prepared to take on any extra care that it might require before you
consider getting one.
